president of the Community of Madrid

The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has scored a point this week that is not hers: “We approved in the Governing Council: reduction in university fees 20% undergraduate, 30% in master’s degrees.

Good news for students. They will have to pay less to study at a university in Madrid. A supposed good news that the leader of the Madrid PP announced Tuesday on Twitter with great fanfare, as if it were a success of her mandate.

But that decision has been, in reality, a great failure for her. The Madrid Government does so by legal imposition and despite having been the only community that voted against the reduction of qualifying master’s fees, in March 2021 during the General Conference on University Policy (CGPU).

Where the Government discussed the measure central and regional. Enrique Ossorio, Minister of Education, was left alone at that time. And even he went to the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM) in September 2020, to aoid lowering the university fees of the career with a contentious-administrative appeal. Despite everything, both Ayuso and the Autonomous Administration are now launching the news on networks as a great measure of its management.
